The Truth Behind Nigerian Pastors’ “Miracles”
Many Nigerians still believe that pastors perform divine healings, yet we readily accept scientific facts like water’s composition. Why, then, do we doubt the laws of nature when we hear stories of instant wheelchair-bound recoveries? There are three explanations for these so-called miracles: 1. Some pastors hire actors to stage healings purely for crowd-pulling and financial gain. 2. Others fake events with actors to spread their message, justifying deception as a means to share the gospel. 3. In a few cases, congregants experience temporary relief—often a mild placebo effect—then later return to their original state, still believing they witnessed a miracle. Real change in Nigeria comes from action, not theatrics. Until pastors demonstrably solve the nation’s problems rather than stage spectacles, we should focus on street protests and civic engagement rather than waiting for supernatural fixes.
