Troost-Ekong Joins Gradel, El Hadary and Mputu for Historic AFCON 2027 Draw
Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong will help oversee the AFCON 2027 qualification draw in Cairo on 19 May. He will be joined at the Egyptian Football Association headquarters by Ivorian Max-Alain Gradel, Egypt’s Essam El Hadary and DR Congo’s Trésor Mputu. The finals will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania from 19 June to 17 July, marking East Africa’s first AFCON in 51 years and the first time three nations have shared hosting duties. The 48 teams in the qualifiers will be placed into 12 groups, with the top two in each advancing. Hosts Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will still compete, but an extra team from their pool will join them.
