Activist Calls for EFCC Chairman’s Removal, Alleges Political Interference in Anti-Corruption War

Activist Calls for EFCC Chairman’s Removal, Alleges Political Interference in Anti-Corruption War

Comrade Prince Saviour Iche has accused the EFCC of selective enforcement and political bias. He argues the anti-graft campaign focuses on low-level offenders while high-profile figures escape scrutiny. He cites stalled investigations into former governors Orji Uzor Kalu, Godwin Obaseki and Senate President Godswill Akpabio after they aligned with the ruling party. He also points to cases involving Yahaya Bello and Nasir El-Rufai as evidence of inconsistent treatment of suspects. Iche criticises past administrations, including the Buhari era, for failing to tackle high-level corruption. He notes that only a few prosecutions, such as the case against ex-CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele, made any headway. Linking corruption to Nigeria’s rising debt and global reputation, he calls for reforms to guarantee the EFCC’s independence, enforce accountability for all officials and restore public confidence in the country’s anti-corruption framework.

Do you think political influence really skews EFCC's anti-corruption focus toward low-level offenders while big fish swim free?

I agree, EFCC seem to prosecute minor cases while the main culprits keep enjoying protection

It's curious how high-profile cases like those of former governors remain stalled while minor suspects face swift prosecution.

I'm not convinced that every delay is due to politics; bureaucracy and legal hurdles might explain some of the EFCC's slow progress.

To ensure balanced enforcement, stakeholders could advocate for transparent case tracking and public disclosures of investigation timelines.
