Delta Police Arrest 11 Suspected Cultists, Seize Firearms and Weapons

Delta Police Arrest 11 Suspected Cultists, Seize Firearms and Weapons

Delta State Police Command has arrested 11 suspected cultists in separate operations and seized firearms, ammunition and other dangerous weapons. On May 14, the Buffalo Patrol Team raided a suspected hideout at Eagle Square along Okpanam Road in Asaba. Seven men and two women were detained and officers recovered a Beretta pistol, a battle axe and a cutlass. The suspects were handed over to the Command’s Anti-Cult Unit for further investigation. Earlier that morning, the Safer Highway Patrol intercepted a Lexus Jeep on the Ughelli–Patani Road. The vehicle, driven by Felix Ike, contained an English-made pump action gun and 40 live cartridges. Ike remains in custody as inquiries continue. On May 15, anti-cult operatives arrested 28-year-old Christopher Ogidigbo from Ogharaefe in Ethiope-West LGA, identified as a leader of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity. A locally made revolver was recovered. The Commissioner of Police praised the teams for their swift and professional response.

Seizing weapons is important, but I wonder if targeting only one hideout really disrupts wider cult networks.

Just focusing on arrests overlooks deeper causes, punishing suspects without prevention support may not solve the problem.

To improve safety, local leaders could partner with police for neighborhood watch programs and anonymous weapons amnesty days.
