Kano Launches Master Plan Restoration, Sets Demolitions to Check Illegal Structures

Kano Launches Master Plan Restoration, Sets Demolitions to Check Illegal Structures

The Acting MD of KNUPDA, Dr. Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, says the state government is determined to restore Kano’s original master plan. He announced enforcement actions and reforms to address widespread illegal developments. Dr. Sani highlighted his achievements at KANGIS, where monthly land revenue rose from ₦50m to ₦750m and annual earnings topped ₦5bn. He stressed that public office must serve the people, not personal interests. A seven-member committee led by Dr. Sani and overseen by the Secretary to the State Government has begun investigating alleged irregularities at KNUPDA. The panel will submit its findings and recommendations within three weeks to strengthen urban planning and compliance.

Kano authorities should map unapproved developments clearly, issue phased compliance deadlines, and provide affordable relocation support where necessary.
