Police Raid Church-Disguised Criminal Hideout in Akwa Ibom, Arrest Seven — 1 of 4
1 / 4

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command raided a compound posing as a church at 6:00 am on April 8, 2026. They arrested seven suspects—four men and three women—after acting on credible intelligence of criminal operations under a religious cover. Officers recovered two locally made double-barrel guns, five spent cartridges, motorcycles, generators, mobile phones, a police crest, jungle boots, machetes, a special forces vest and bottles of suspected spiritual oil during the search. The Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough investigation and vowed that criminals will find no hiding place. Members of the public are urged to support the police with timely and credible information to help safeguard lives and property.

I get your concern, but it's harsh to blame churches solely. Lack of routine inspections could explain the oversight.

It's interesting that credible intelligence led to this raid, yet questions remain about the reliability of informant tips in such operations.

Tarring every religious gathering with suspicion could undermine genuine worshippers and waste police resources chasing false leads.
