Court of Appeal Strikes Down PDP Caretaker Committee Recognition, Confirms Anyanwu Suspension
The Court of Appeal has set aside part of a Federal High Court ruling that recognised the PDP Caretaker Committee. It held that the issue of the committee was not before the court after the Supreme Court nullified the party’s national convention. The panel noted that the lower court had no jurisdiction to validate the Caretaker Committee and that ordering a retrial would be academic. It also upheld the suspension of A.K. Ajibade and other officials, including Sam Anyanwu, for acting without legal authority during the review period. In light of this decision, the PDP Interim National Working Committee has called on INEC to withdraw recognition from the Caretaker Committee and instead recognise the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki–led committee. This marks a new phase in the ongoing leadership dispute within the party ahead of upcoming elections.
