Army Dismisses Civilian Casualty Claims in Zurmi Market Air Strike
The military has denied any credible evidence of civilian deaths following the air strike on Tumfa market in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Local witnesses and Amnesty International reported that over 100 people were killed and dozens injured. One village is said to have buried 80 victims in a single mass grave. Defence Headquarters spokesperson Michael Onoja stated the operation was aimed at a gathering of high-level militants based on multi-sourced intelligence. He insisted post-strike assessments found no verified civilian casualties and confirmed several terrorists were neutralised. Further investigations are ongoing.
