APC Revises 2027 Primary Dates: Presidential Now May 23, Governorship May 21

APC Revises 2027 Primary Dates: Presidential Now May 23, Governorship May 21

The All Progressives Congress has moved its presidential primary to May 23, 2026, and scheduled its governorship primary for May 21, 2026. The decision follows the party’s 186th National Working Committee meeting in Abuja. Nomination forms will be on sale from April 25 to May 2, with submission closing on May 4. Screening of aspirants for various positions will run from May 6–8, while presidential hopefuls will be screened on May 9. Screening results are due May 11, with appeals on May 12–13. Specific primary dates include the House of Representatives on May 15, the Senate on May 18, and State Assembly on May 20. Post-primary appeals for all categories are set between May 18 and May 25. APC confirms it will use both direct and consensus modes of nomination under the Electoral Act. The party assured equal access to forms for all aspirants. INEC’s timetable sets presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, and governorship and state assembly polls for February 6, 2027.

E be like say the tight window from April 25 to May 2 for nomination forms go favour only aspirants with deep pockets.

I'm not convinced these new dates will resolve the APC's internal tensions or improve fairness in candidate selection.

Aspirants should immediately plan fundraising and campaign strategy ahead of the April 25 start for nomination form sales.
