Tinubu to Meet South African Envoy Over Attacks on Nigerians
President Bola Tinubu has agreed to meet a South African delegation led by International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola after initially declining the request. The delegation arrived in Abuja on 24 July 2026 amid concerns over reported xenophobic attacks on Nigerians, their businesses and properties in South Africa. Diplomatic sources said the meeting followed behind-the-scenes engagement, including a weekend call reportedly initiated by President Cyril Ramaphosa. Nigeria's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, is expected to participate. Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu is in Addis Ababa and had reportedly advised against receiving the envoy while attacks on Nigerians continue.
