Could My Yam Sacks Collapse the Sewage Pit in the Rainy Season?

Could My Yam Sacks Collapse the Sewage Pit in the Rainy Season?

I filled 40 sacks with sand and planted yam seedlings on top of a freshly plastered sewage pit ten days ago. It was hard work and I even felt under the weather from the effort. My neighbor warned that the weight of the sand would cause the pit to sink, saying hers collapsed under similar conditions. I assured her mine is different and walked away. Now that the rainy season is here, I’m worried the extra weight and water could weaken the pit. Has anyone tried this method? Could the rainy weather cause it to fail?

Have you noticed any cracks or movement around the pit since you added those yam-filled sand sacks?

When did you first notice any slight settling of the ground after putting the yam sacks nearby?

That much weight on fresh plaster could weaken the structure before the rainy season even begins to test it.

I'm not convinced a pit meant for sewage should double as a planting bed—seems like mixing two jobs that don't align.

You might place a sturdy board or timber across the sacks to spread out the load and reduce pressure on one spot.
