JAMB Clarifies: No Lower UTME Cut-off Marks for Candidates with Disabilities

JAMB Clarifies: No Lower UTME Cut-off Marks for Candidates with Disabilities

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has confirmed that disabled candidates sit the same Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and face identical admission standards. Over the past decade, the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group has supported 4,216 candidates with disabilities. On average, about 53% of them gain entry into universities, polytechnics and colleges of education each year. To mark JEOG’s 10th anniversary, JAMB unveiled AI-driven tools aimed at making higher education more inclusive. The board also introduced a guide to help parents, lecturers and institutions support underage students, noting that 96 youths under 16 have already been admitted. A commemorative book titled “A Peep into the Future of Higher Education in Nigeria” was presented at the stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja.

How do you think applying the same UTME standards to disabled candidates affects inclusivity in tertiary admissions?

I agree, using same UTME standards shows fairness, though we must ensure support measures make the process genuinely inclusive for disabled candidates.

That's interesting, I also wonder if helping so many disabled candidates really changed their success rates.

No lower cut-off marks sounds fair, but dem exam arrangements still no really fit mobility or visual impairment needs properly.

JAMB could start publishing accessible practice questions and clear exam guidelines tailored for different disability needs.
