Trump Proposes Seizing Iran’s Oil and Kharg Island

In a recent interview with the Financial Times, US President Donald Trump said his favourite thing would be to seize Iran’s oil reserves. He suggested that Washington could capture Kharg Island, the country’s main oil export hub, arguing it had no meaningful defences. He compared the idea to the US strategy in Venezuela and its aim to control that nation’s oil industry indefinitely after President Maduro’s abduction. Trump noted that some critics in the US called his plan unwise, labelling them “stupid people.” He said seizing Kharg Island was one of several options, though it would require a sustained presence there.

Any attempt to seize Kharg Island would require multilateral support and clear legal backing to avoid severe diplomatic fallout.
