Nigerian Man Gets 21 Months in US Prison Over $1.5 Million Nursing Diploma Scam
A 55-year-old Nigerian man has been sentenced to 21 months in federal prison in the United States for running a nursing credentials fraud. Patrick Nwaokwu admitted conspiring to sell fake diplomas, transcripts and licences from defunct schools in Virginia and Florida. Court documents show he charged up to $17,000 for bogus RN degrees and coordinated with co-conspirators to backdate graduation dates. Their scheme cost more than $1.5 million and exposed patients to serious harm by enabling unqualified individuals to work as nurses. Following his prison term, Nwaokwu will serve two years of supervised release. His case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Maryland with support from the FBI and HHS-OIG.
