NSCDC Mining Marshal Commander Rejects Police’s N2bn Claim, Blames Illegal Miners for Colleague’s Death
The commander of the NSCDC Mining Marshals, John Onoja, has dismissed a police report that linked one of his officers to over N2 billion in suspicious transactions. He insists foreign nationals running illegal mining sites are responsible for the marshal’s death. Onoja presented bank records showing less than ₦1 million in transactions for the officer in the past year. He called the police’s N2 billion allegation false and misleading. He accused Team N of the Police’s Force Intelligence Department of blackmail and repeated interference with lawful mining operations in Nasarawa State. Onoja has asked the Inspector-General of Police to transfer the death investigation to the DSS for an impartial review. The NSCDC supported the late officer’s family and handled burial expenses. Onoja claims foreign miners who lost concessions are funding police efforts to undermine the marshals. He urged Nigerians to stay calm while authorities investigate.
