Day 9 World Cup Recap: Morocco Matches Nigeria’s Win Record as USA and Brazil Advance

World Cup Day 9 saw four decisive group games across the United States. Morocco’s victory over Scotland took them level with Nigeria’s record for most African wins at the finals. Hosts USA rallied in front of a passionate Seattle crowd to beat Australia 2-0. An own goal from Cameron Burgess opened the scoring before Alex Freeman’s strike just before halftime sealed their spot in the round of 32. In Boston, Ismail Sabiri stunned Scotland with a goal inside 70 seconds. That 1-0 win equals Nigeria and Ghana with six World Cup match victories. Brazil responded to criticism by dispatching Haiti 3-0 in Philadelphia through goals from Lucas Cunha and Vinicius Jr. Paraguay also booked their last-16 place, edging Turkey 1-0 courtesy of Matias Galarza’s early strike.

Morocco's win over Scotland shows they're peaking at the right time, but Scotland's defense seemed unusually brittle in that match.

Totally! Morocco's timing is spot on, and Scotland's backline seemed to crumble under all that pressure.

Nigeria's record-equalling run highlights scouting local talent effectively—other federations could invest more in youth development and domestic leagues from now.
