Atiku Slams N8bn Church and Mosque Budget: ‘God Is Not a Laundering Machine’
ADC presidential hopeful Atiku Abubakar has criticised the Federal Government’s proposal to allocate over N8 billion to church and mosque projects in the 2026 budget. Quoting analysis from public accountability group Tracka, he said N1.91 billion is earmarked for church works and N6.14 billion for mosque renovations. He argued the plan lacks transparency because the names of beneficiary institutions and project details are withheld. Atiku challenged the administration to publish every beneficiary, location, implementing agency and legal basis for these allocations. He warned that using places of worship to conceal public spending crosses a moral red line. He urged the government to keep religious leaders out of budget controversies and ensure all projects are executed in full public view.
