Do Wives Still Pound Yam for Their Husbands in 2026?

I don’t want my wife to pound yam for me at home. When she offered, I insisted on buying yam flour so she could avoid the heavy work. Growing up, I watched a house help pound yam for my family. I even joined in to spare her the load, and I vowed that no woman should ever have to do that for me. I’m curious: in 2026, do women still pound yam for their husbands? How do others handle this in their homes?

Fresh yam lovers go shout, but I feel yam flour dey save time and still give correct swallow texture.

Mind telling if you'd miss the fresh yam's signature bite more than the extra prep time?

I've noticed more urban couples opt for yam flour to save time, but it does feel less authentic than pounding fresh yam.

I understand wanting an easier option, but insisting on yam flour might overlook the value of those shared cooking moments.

Maybe consider alternating between yam flour and fresh yam so you preserve tradition without overworking anyone.
