Chelsea’s Joao Pedro and Andrey Santos Cut From Brazil’s 2026 World Cup Squad

Chelsea’s Joao Pedro and Andrey Santos Cut From Brazil’s 2026 World Cup Squad

Carlo Ancelotti unveiled his Brazil roster at the Museu do Amanhã in Rio de Janeiro this week. While Neymar made the cut, Chelsea pair Joao Pedro and Andrey Santos were surprisingly left out, according to reports. Joao Pedro responded in a public statement. He said he gave his best but fell short of the dream to represent Brazil at the World Cup. He remains focused and will cheer on his teammates as a fan. The striker enjoyed a strong debut season at Stamford Bridge, scoring 20 goals and providing nine assists in 49 appearances. He also netted three times en route to Chelsea’s Club World Cup title. Pedro featured in three of Ancelotti’s previous squads this year, but that experience was not enough to secure his place on the plane to North America.

Do you think leaving out both Chelsea stars will impact Brazil's chemistry or spark fresh talent during the World Cup qualifiers?

When you say spark fresh talent, are you focusing on young prospects or just different tactical roles?

Seems odd Ancelotti ignored their club performances; might suggest broader selection issues rather than just Pedro and Santos falling short.

I'm not convinced snubbing them was purely tactical; maybe politics at the federation level played a part in this decision.
