Cross River Man Accused of Setting Mother Ablaze Over Witchcraft Allegation
A man, Emmanuel Etim, has been accused of setting his mother, Mrs. Atim Eyo, ablaze in Ojuah, Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State. The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, August 14, after the death of Etim’s daughter. He allegedly blamed his mother for the child’s death, accusing her of witchcraft. Witnesses said he first attempted to strangle her before she broke free. As she tried to escape, he allegedly poured petrol on her and set her on fire. Neighbours put out the flames and rushed her to hospital. The case has reportedly been reported to police, while the suspect and some relatives were said to be at large.
