Eight Atrocity Policies Deterring South-East Youth from Military Service
The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law warns that eight major government actions since 2015 have eroded South-East youths’ trust in security forces. These include alleged extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances and widespread property destruction during military operations. The group notes that only 123 candidates from the region enlisted out of 38,000 recruitment slots. It attributes the low turnout to fears of targeting, discrimination and unaddressed human rights abuses documented by various civil society organisations. Intersociety calls for independent inquiries into these past violations and demands accountability. It urges comprehensive reforms to rebuild confidence and encourage more youths from the South-East to consider military and police careers.
