Ooni of Ife Honors Pa Kola Oyewo as ‘Pride of Yorubaland’

The Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has paid tribute to the late Pa Kola Oyewo, describing him as a true pride of Yorubaland. In a statement from the palace, the monarch hailed the veteran actor and scholar for his lifelong dedication to Yoruba theatre, culture and education. Pa Oyewo, who passed away on June 12, 2026 at age 80, was celebrated for his powerful stage and screen performances as well as his contributions to cultural scholarship. Born in Oba-Ile, Osun State, he spent many years in Ile-Ife nurturing talent and preserving indigenous traditions. The Ooni praised Pa Oyewo’s lasting legacy, noting that his work inspired generations of actors and culture enthusiasts across Nigeria and beyond. He extended heartfelt condolences to the Oyewo family and prayed for the departed icon’s peaceful repose.
