Deji Adeyanju Testifies for DSS in Trial Over El-Rufai’s Alleged Phone Tapping
Deji Adeyanju appeared as the second prosecution witness in the Federal High Court in Abuja. He confirmed that he was summoned by subpoena and recalled challenging several of Nasir El-Rufai’s statements as half-truths during a live TV interview on February 13. The court admitted video recordings of both El-Rufai’s and Adeyanju’s interviews as Exhibits G, H and H1. Adeyanju said he heard instructions about an arrest but insisted there was no political persecution. Under cross-examination, defence counsel argued that speaker-phone comments did not amount to tapping. Adeyanju maintained he only reported what he heard. He said he complied with the DSS summons reluctantly and offered no opinion on how the NSA’s calls were made. Judge Abdulmalik adjourned the trial until June 23 for continuation of proceedings.
