AMP’s FCT Chairman Unveils Plan to Make Abuja Nollywood’s Next Production Hub

AMP’s FCT Chairman Unveils Plan to Make Abuja Nollywood’s Next Production Hub

Desmond Utomwen, chairman of the Association of Movie Producers’ FCT chapter, explains how years of service and overwhelming peer support led to his election. He stresses the producer’s role as Nollywood’s backbone and outlines strategies to boost financial sustainability, improve distribution, and enhance production quality in Abuja. His goal is to shift perceptions of the city from a “sleepy town” to a vibrant filmmaking centre. Utomwen highlights Abuja’s unique locations, infrastructure, and policy access as competitive advantages over Lagos. He is forging partnerships with the Nigerian Film Corporation, NTA, and other agencies to establish a collaborative ecosystem that benefits local and visiting filmmakers. Over his two-year term, he plans to rebrand the guild, strengthen stakeholder ties, and roll out frameworks that ensure producers, actors, and investors thrive in the FCT.
