Were the Dead in Hell Before the Final Resurrection?

Those restored to life at the end were not in the lake of fire while dead. They awaited the general resurrection and the White Throne judgment. The Bible says, “The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were over” (Revelation 20:5). They remained in death, awaiting their resurrection. At the final judgment, “the dead, great and small, stood before the throne… and death and Hades gave up the dead in them” (Revelation 20:12–13). Only afterward do the condemned enter the lake of fire, referred to as the second death (Revelation 20:14–15).
