Customs Hands Over N2.6B Seized Drug Consignments to NDLEA in Owerri

Customs Hands Over N2.6B Seized Drug Consignments to NDLEA in Owerri

The Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit Zone C in Owerri has handed over seized drug consignments valued at over N2.6 billion to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The items included 1,126,060 tramadol tablets, 21,245 bottles of codeine syrup, 666 sacks and 19 wraps of cannabis sativa, plus other controlled substances. The handover was led by Comptroller Bishir Abdullahi Balogun at the unit’s headquarters. Customs said the seizures resulted from credible intelligence, diligent surveillance, and professional dedication. Both agencies stressed the danger illicit drugs pose to public health and national security. The service reaffirmed its collaboration with sister agencies and urged the public to report suspicious activities to help build a safer and healthier society.

Does anyone think this handover of N2.6B in seized drugs will actually curb trafficking in Owerri?

Yes, this transfer to NDLEA shows real effort to tackle drug trade. Hopefully it impacts trafficking here.

But in what way does transferring that N2.6B to NDLEA actually hit drug networks?

These figures are staggering, but I wonder how often customs operations lead to actual convictions on the receiving end.

Impressive seizure handover, yet officials often overlook regular checkpoints and community patrols that might intercept drugs earlier.

Local leaders should coordinate with NDLEA and customs to raise awareness and support reporting of suspicious activities in neighbourhoods.
