NFF Condemns Racist Abuse of Esther Okoronkwo Ahead of WAFCON 2026
The Nigeria Football Federation has condemned racist abuse allegedly directed at Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo after a theft incident at the team’s hotel camp in Casablanca ahead of WAFCON 2026. Moroccan authorities reportedly arrested the suspect, recovered the stolen money and secured a six-month prison sentence. Despite this, some social-media users allegedly targeted Okoronkwo with racist comments, even though she had no connection to the crime. Fans can celebrate, criticise performances and debate football, but racism is never banter. The Super Falcons should be allowed to focus on defending their WAFCON title, beginning with Malawi before further fixtures against Zambia and Egypt. Should football authorities introduce lifetime stadium bans and criminal penalties for racist abuse?
