Former Kaduna Governor El-Rufai Granted Bail to Attend Mother’s Funeral

Former Kaduna Governor El-Rufai Granted Bail to Attend Mother’s Funeral — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has been granted temporary bail by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission. This follows the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who passed away in Cairo after a period of illness. The bail will allow him to perform her funeral rites. His son confirmed the release late Friday, thanking supporters and decrying the agency’s handling of the case. President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani have all paid tribute to the late matriarch. They praised her long life of service and offered condolences to the El-Rufai family. Meanwhile, El-Rufai remains in custody over ongoing corruption and money-laundering charges. He was arraigned in March and is due back in court later this year for pending bail applications.
