Sporting Lagos Return to NPFL After Alex Leme’s 17th-Minute Strike
Sporting Lagos have clinched promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League after a season of impressive performances. Forward Alex Leme netted the decisive goal in the 17th minute to end the club’s two-year absence from the top flight. Under head coach Jeffrey Butler, Sporting Lagos topped Conference B with 36 points from 18 matches. Inter Lagos and Doma United had already confirmed their own promotion before the final round. In the race for second place, Akwa United secured a 2-1 victory over Solution FC. Aniebiet Sunday opened the scoring in the 50th minute and Michael Okenwa added a second just three minutes later. Despite a late reply from Solution FC, Akwa United finished as runners-up.
