Kano Deputy Governor Abdulsalam Gwarzo Announces Resignation

Kano Deputy Governor Abdulsalam Gwarzo Announces Resignation

By Hafsat Bello Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo has reportedly stepped down as Deputy Governor of Kano State. The Kwankwasiyya Movement issued a statement saying this move aims to preserve stability in state governance. According to the group’s spokesperson, prevailing circumstances made it hard for him to perform his duties fully. They emphasized this decision is in the people’s best interest and not an admission of wrongdoing. Gwarzo maintains his innocence and plans to focus on strengthening the Kwankwasiyya Movement ahead of the 2027 elections. The Kano State government has not yet confirmed the resignation.

I'm not convinced stepping down alone will ensure smooth governance—other power struggles could still flare up behind the scenes.

Local leaders should focus on inclusive dialogues immediately, so constituents feel heard and tension around this resignation doesn't escalate.
