When My Colleagues Mocked My Homemade Lunch

When My Colleagues Mocked My Homemade Lunch

Every time I ate my homemade food in the office, my colleagues would sneak over with their spoons and finish it. They’d then laugh and stroll off, only to buy their own meals at the canteen during break. I figured it out and stopped bringing lunch to my desk. Instead, I joined everyone for a group trip to the canteen. That seemed to fix things—until one day a coworker accused me of being stingy for no longer sharing my food. The whole office laughed. I asked him why he didn’t bring his own lunch if he cared so much. He shot back, “Any man who brings food to the office isn’t man enough.” The women agreed, saying they wouldn’t marry a man who always packed his own meal.

While joining their lunchtime routine might feel safer, maybe directly addressing the issue with a firm boundary would be more effective.

Consider labeling your containers or using a lunch bag stored elsewhere. That small change could deter anyone helping themselves.
