Los Angeles Teacher Sentenced to 10 Years for Abusing 13-Year-Old Student
A 44-year-old teacher at John Burroughs Middle School in Los Angeles has been sentenced to a decade behind bars for raping a 13-year-old student. Colleen Jo Matarico pleaded no contest to two counts of lewd acts with a child under 14. Six other charges were dropped. During her sentencing on April 27, she smiled and laughed as the judge handed down the 10-year prison term. Prosecutors say most of the abuse happened between August and November 2025. She also gave the victim marijuana and told him she would leave her husband for him. The court barred any contact between Matarico and her victim.
