EFCC Reviews Petition Alleging Ghost-Worker Payments Linked to Adeleke Aide — 1 of 2
1 / 2

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it is reviewing a petition alleging that Bamikole Omishore, an aide to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, and his wife were involved in a ghost-worker payroll scheme. The petition alleges that Omishore’s wife was listed as a Grade Level 12 employee of the National Assembly while living and working as a nurse in the United States. It further claims that salaries were paid into her bank account for nearly three years. The allegations were linked to a wider investigation into claims that lawmakers and aides diverted public funds through payments to non-existent workers. The EFCC spokesperson said the petition was before the commission and was receiving attention. The allegations have not been proven in court.

What safeguards does Osun State use to detect ghost workers before salaries are processed, especially when a petition raises allegations like this?

The EFCC says it is reviewing a petition, so the allegations are not findings yet. Payroll records should make the facts easier to verify.

Public attention is understandable, but people should avoid treating the aide and his wife as guilty before the petition review is concluded.
