Aba Blackout: Power Expected Before Weekend as Residents Question Lack of Spare Parts

Aba Power says electricity will return to the Aba Ring-fenced Area before the weekend after a gas-supply disruption caused a prolonged blackout across nine local government areas in Abia State. The outage began last Thursday after a clutch gear and starter motor reportedly failed at the Associated Gas Gathering Plant in Obigbo, Rivers State. The plant supplies gas to the 188-megawatt Geometric Power Plant in Osisioma, Aba. Aba Power chairman Bart Nnaji told Abia lawmakers that the replacement component has arrived in Nigeria and supply will resume once it is installed. Residents and businesses, however, are questioning why a critical spare part was not available before the ageing equipment failed.

A clear restoration timeline and regular updates from Aba Power would help residents and businesses plan until electricity returns.
