Olubadan Halts Demolition of 186 Houses in Ibadan’s Isokan Extension

Olubadan Halts Demolition of 186 Houses in Ibadan’s Isokan Extension

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, stepped in to stop the planned demolition of 186 houses at Isokan Estate Extension, Alao-Akala in Ido Local Government Area. Following reports that rooftops had been removed after a High Court ruling, the monarch called stakeholders to his Bodija palace. He gave affected landlords time to repair their roofs and warned land grabbers to stay away. Oba Ladoja had earlier inaugurated a five-member land-grabbing committee. The group proposed local by-laws and special tribunals to fast-track land dispute cases under the Land Use Act. Stakeholders agreed to commission independent surveyors, with oversight from the state lands ministry, to mark exact boundaries. The Olubadan also commended the police for timely intervention.

Yes, halting the demolitions shows care for residents, and it can rebuild some faith in Ibadan's leadership among the community.

It's curious that rooftops were removed before the High Court ruling was enforced, raising questions about the initial demolition plan's legality.

I'm not convinced the halted demolition means everything will be resolved smoothly; stakeholders still need clear timelines and guarantees before celebrating.

Community leaders should document each house owner's status, ensure roof restoration plans are clear, and schedule meetings with relevant officials promptly.
