IGP Warns Youths Against Political Violence and Misinformation Ahead of 2027 Elections
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has urged Nigerian youths to reject political violence, misinformation and online intimidation as preparations begin for the 2027 general elections. Speaking at a youth leadership and security dialogue in Abuja, Disu said politicians may settle their differences after elections, while young people recruited for violence often bear the lasting consequences. He said the police would protect citizens’ rights to campaign, support political parties and express their views freely. However, the force will not tolerate the mobilisation of young Nigerians for violence. The IGP also advised youths to verify information before sharing it online, warning that digital footprints can affect future opportunities, including visa applications.
