Tinubu Says Government Rejected Ransom Demands in Oriire Abductees’ Rescue

President Bola Tinubu says the Federal Government rejected ransom demands and calls for the release of detained gang members during efforts to rescue abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. Speaking during a meeting with Oyo traditional rulers at the Presidential Villa, Tinubu said security operatives intensified pressure on the abductors because their location was known. He said those accused of murder and other serious crimes would face justice. The President said the incident had prompted a review of Nigeria’s security strategy. He announced plans to expand the Nigerian Army from eight to 12 divisions, strengthen forest guards and establish state police with safeguards against abuse. Tinubu also urged communities to report suspicious persons and asked state governors to channel increased federal allocations towards infrastructure and security projects.
