Obi Slams Tinubu Over Electricity Failures After Unfulfilled Four-Year Pledge
Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticized President Bola Tinubu for failing to deliver stable electricity nearly three years into his administration. He recalled Tinubu’s campaign promise that Nigerians would have constant power within four years or he would not deserve a second term. Obi noted that average generation remains below 4,000 megawatts and per capita consumption is only 144 kWh, far below Africa’s average of 617 kWh. He also highlighted the President’s recent remark in Jos—“You have no light here, I fly out in ten minutes”—as a sign of the leadership’s disconnect from citizens’ daily struggles. In response, Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu cited improvements from ongoing reforms and higher gas supply to plants. Public reaction, however, remains mixed, with some questioning the pace of progress while others urge patience.
