NPFL 2025/26 Golden Boot Showdown: Six Players Separated by a Single Goal

NPFL 2025/26 Golden Boot Showdown: Six Players Separated by a Single Goal — 1 of 7
1 / 7

With just five matchdays remaining, the race for the NPFL Golden Boot is tighter than ever. Six forwards sit within one goal of each other, each with a genuine chance to finish as top scorer. Godwin Obaje leads the pack for Enugu Rangers, drawing on the experience that earned him the 2016 Golden Boot. Young winger Joseph Arumala has matched Obaje’s tally for Ikorodu City in only his second season, while former Enyimba star Victor Mbaoma boasts the best goals-per-game ratio despite a rib injury earlier on. Midfielder Daddy Abdulrahman has been the dark horse, contributing ten goals and two assists for El-Kanemi Warriors. Uche Collins, the only contender with a hat-trick this season, can change the contest in an instant for Katsina United. Emeka Obioma, last season’s Golden Boot winner, remains a pure finisher for Abia Warriors. Any one of these six could lift the trophy when the final whistle blows.

Six players within one goal at this stage shows just how unpredictable the NPFL scoring race can get with five rounds left.

I'm not convinced past form guarantees anything; even Obaje's experience might not be enough when five matchdays feel like a lifetime.

Teams chasing the top scorer prize should focus on set pieces and positioning drills to give their forwards every advantage in those final matches.
