Bayelsa Assembly Summons Sagbama Council Chair Despite Pending Court Order — 1 of 3

The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has summoned Sagbama Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Alice Tangi Allen, despite a Bayelsa High Court order directing all parties to maintain the status quo pending the hearing of her case. Justice D.E. Adokeme issued the interim order on August 10, 2026, after Allen filed a suit against the Bayelsa State Government, the House Speaker, the Sagbama Legislative Council, its leader and the Attorney-General. The substantive matter is scheduled for an expedited hearing on August 20. Allen’s lawyer has asked the Assembly to suspend its August 18 invitation, arguing that her appearance could undermine the pending court process. The Assembly’s move follows allegations concerning council spending, budget approval and alleged political funding, which Allen’s camp disputes. Allen, who was elected on the PDP platform, is reportedly outside Bayelsa State for medical reasons.
