US Court Approves Green Card for Fugitive Ex-Ghana Finance Minister

Former Ghanaian Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has won US permanent residency, his lawyer confirmed on June 16. He has lived in the United States since January 2025 for prostate cancer treatment. Earlier this year, ICE arrested him when he sought to extend his stay. Ghanaian authorities had declared him a fugitive in February 2025 amid corruption charges brought in November. A US immigration court granted his I-485 petition after finding he met all adjustment-of-status requirements. The ruling did not assess his guilt or innocence, focusing solely on immigration law.
