Kano Mother of Eight Delivers Quintuplets as State Pledges Care

Kano Mother of Eight Delivers Quintuplets as State Pledges Care

Hafsatu Yusuf, a Kano resident and mother of eight, has welcomed quintuplets—three boys and two girls—at Murtala Specialist Hospital. The birth, her ninth delivery, took place on Wednesday around 2pm. Both mother and babies are in stable condition. Her husband, Malam Salisu Nafiu, a local tricycle operator, expressed gratitude to God for the safe arrival of the five newborns. In response, the Kano State Government announced it will cover all medical expenses for the mother and her quintuplets. According to the state Ministry of Health’s public relations officer, this support is part of efforts to strengthen maternal and child healthcare and reduce mortality rates across the state.

How do you think the state's pledge of care will help Hafsatu Yusuf and her newborn quintuplets in Kano?

That state commitment should cover medical expenses and essentials, giving those newborns and their mum better care and peace of mind.

Sounds promising, but I wonder if this care pledge will cover all medical and daily needs for her and the quintuplets.

It's impressive that both mother and all five babies are stable, but I wonder if local resources can truly meet their long-term needs.

I'm not convinced the government's promise alone is enough; past pledges in similar cases often fall short without proper implementation.

Local volunteers and healthcare workers could coordinate community fundraisers or donation drives to support Hafsatu's hospital bills and baby supplies.
