Time for a Pan-African Bootcamp: AU and ECOWAS Must Step Up on Mali Crisis

Mali remains shattered by brutal Islamist attacks, yet Africa’s leading bodies seem stuck in inertia. Imagine how quickly nations would rally if Europe faced a conflict of its own making. Too often, African Union staff in Addis Ababa and ECOWAS officials in Abuja offer little beyond empty statements. Our continent deserves leaders who grasp the true civic purpose of Pan-Africanism and act decisively. Perhaps it’s time for a rigorous training camp to instill real accountability and unity among AU and ECOWAS personnel. Only then can African institutions rise to meet their own challenges—and protect our people.
