Why Preserving the Biajua Rainforest Is Vital for Nigeria’s Future

Why Preserving the Biajua Rainforest Is Vital for Nigeria’s Future

The Biajua Rainforest in Boki Local Government Area is one of Nigeria’s most precious ecological treasures. This untouched tropical forest shelters countless endemic and endangered species, regulates our climate, and sustains vital water cycles. Beyond its biodiversity, the forest holds great economic promise. With sustainable eco-tourism, regulated forest-based enterprises, and scientific research, we can generate income and green jobs for the people of Biajua without destroying the forest. As a farmer and community leader, I urge government and local stakeholders to enforce stronger conservation laws, empower communities through awareness and incentives, and partner with conservation organisations. Our actions now will determine whether future generations inherit a thriving rainforest or a lost legacy. Ayuk, Farmer and Community Leader, Biajua-Boki

Local communities alone can't shoulder this responsibility; government policy and private sector support must step up.

It's striking that the Biajua Rainforest's unique biodiversity and water cycle support rarely get attention in our national conservation plans.

I'm not convinced restricting all access will help locals who depend on forest resources for survival.
