Micah Richards Calls for Saka to Start vs Mexico Even at 80% Fit

Micah Richards Calls for Saka to Start vs Mexico Even at 80% Fit — 1 of 4
1 / 4

Former England defender Micah Richards has urged manager Thomas Tuchel to recall Bukayo Saka for the World Cup Round of 16 tie against Mexico. Richards points to Saka’s 53 caps, 14 goals and 11 assists as proof of his importance on the wing. Despite starting only once and coming off the bench three times, Saka has already registered two assists. Richards argues that even at eighty per cent fitness, Saka’s creativity and experience are vital and that Noni Madueke should make way. Richards also noted that Marcus Rashford has not lived up to expectations while praising Anthony Gordon’s impact. England now face the added challenge of Mexico City’s high altitude at the iconic Azteca Stadium.

Past goals numbers are nice, but playing at under 100% could backfire against a tough opponent like Mexico.

Claiming we should start Saka even at 80 percent fitness risks underestimating Mexico's intensity and game plan.

Perhaps a gradual return off the bench could harness Saka's impact while managing his fitness for later stages.
