Militias Ambush Burial Party, Kill Three and Abduct Two in Ushongo, Benue
On the night of Saturday, April 25, local militias ambushed mourners returning from a burial in Sati-Ikov, Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue State. Three young men were shot dead and two others, a man and a woman, were kidnapped. The lawmaker for Ushongo Constituency, Simon Gabo, confirmed the attack and decried a recent surge in violence. He identified the victims and warned that fighters have been crossing the river from neighbouring Katsina-Ala to launch hit-and-run raids in forested areas. Gabo said he reported the incident to the police, who dispatched security personnel to the community on Sunday morning. He urged authorities to strengthen patrols and prevent further bloodshed.
