Five Former Rivers State Police Inspectors to Face Trial for Armed Robbery and Kidnapping
Five police inspectors attached to the Rivers State Command have been dismissed and will be arraigned for alleged armed robbery, kidnapping, extortion and conspiracy. The officers were linked to a spree of criminal acts across the state between September 2025 and January 2026, according to a statement from the police spokesperson. Victims reportedly filed petitions through a human rights group, accusing the inspectors of illegal stop-and-searches, gunpoint intimidation and forced bank transfers. Investigations revealed that the syndicate abducted one man along Aba Road and stole over ₦3.6 million and $4,000 worth of cryptocurrency. A second victim lost more than ₦7.3 million in cash and valuables, while a third was dispossessed of ₦1.5 million along NTA Road. After internal proceedings, the officers were dismissed from the force. A prima facie case of conspiracy, armed robbery, kidnapping, official corruption and extortion has been established, and formal charges are expected to be filed within 30 days with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
