Men, It’s Time to Own Our Double Standards

We avoid accountability in our relationships. When a marriage ends in divorce, we often blame the woman for her character or love of money—rarely questioning the man’s role. If a woman is 30 or older and still single, we judge her past and choices. But when a man is 49 or older and unmarried, we make excuses and downplay the same issues. We shame single mothers without knowing their hardships, yet we praise single fathers as if they carry no burden. Growth begins when men stop pointing fingers and start looking inward. Let’s own our flaws and do better.

Focusing on open dialogue about accountability in relationships can help us challenge these double standards and promote fairness.
