Stop Politicising School Abductions, NEYGA Tells Atiku and Obi
The Northern Ethnic Youth Group Assembly (NEYGA) has criticised presidential hopefuls Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi for turning recent school kidnappings in Oyo and Borno States into campaign fodder. NEYGA accused both candidates of exploiting the plight of abducted children to score political points, noting that their past roles in government contributed to today’s security failures. The group reminded Nigerians of global examples—opposition unity after 9/11 in the US and following the October 7 attacks in Israel—where political rivals rallied behind sitting leaders. In contrast, NEYGA said Atiku and Obi’s remarks only fuel President Tinubu’s claim that opponents want to scare him out of the 2027 race. The group urged all parties to prioritise national unity, especially when innocent schoolchildren are at risk.
