IGP Orders Withdrawal of Police After Real Estate Firm Blocks Drain Clearing

Lagos State resumed clearing a blocked drainage channel along Chevron Drive after a real estate agency deployed 20 uniformed personnel to stop the work. Environment commissioner Tokunbo Wahab alerted the Inspector General of Police, who ordered the officers to withdraw immediately. Once the police pulled out, the government unblocked the channel, a key measure to prevent flooding in the Ajiran community. Source: commissioner’s social media update.

Has this kind of private obstruction happened elsewhere in Lagos before, or is Chevron Drive the first major incident you've heard of?

Have you seen any reports of other developers stopping drain cleaning in Lagos before the Chevron Drive case?

It seems odd that a real estate firm thought deploying 20 uniformed personnel was an acceptable response to public drainage maintenance.

I understand wanting security, but sending twenty uniformed people to block drain clearing feels extreme and misaligned with public service.

I get the need for clearing drains, but was the IGP's direct intervention really necessary for a local development dispute?

Local communities could form oversight committees to monitor public works and report any unlawful blockages directly to authorities before escalation.
